Mmm. Creamy.

When we lived in New England, we would regularly head over to a neighboring town for what we believed (and still believe) is the best ice cream ever. As ice cream aficionados, that’s mighty high praise. Just in case you happen to be in New England (anywhere in New England, as this place is worth the drive, even from northern Maine), stop at our favorite location in Carlisle, MA, and visit the Kimball Farm Ice Cream Stand and get yourself a treat — summer only. We loved going there to get our favorite flavor: Chocolate Macadamia Nut Crunch. Alas, that flavor went away years ago, but it was so good, we still talk about it today.

Fortunately for you, and for us, all the ingredients needed to make your own version of Chocolate Macadamia Nut Crunch Ice Cream (it’s so good, it’s always capitalized) are listed right on this site. Isn’t that handy? Actually, we’ve been planing this for a while; we finally got around to it, so let’s scratch up a batch.

This post doesn’t really have any pictures, as it refers you to other posts (plus, we forgot, which means we’d have to make another batch — hmm, good idea) where you can see everything being made right before your eyes, but we will point out a few changes.

First, make up a batch of Macadamia Nut Toffee, but do not top it with chocolate and additional nuts. All you need is the toffee with the macadamia nuts mixed in. This can be done several days in advance and the toffee stored in the refrigerator. Obviously, this is going into the ice cream, so, before you make the ice cream, break up enough toffee into pieces (no larger than 1/2-inch) to make 1 cup.

Second, make a batch of what we call Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate Ice Cream, but omit the addition of chocolate chunks right at the end. Instead, add those macadamia toffee bits in their place.

Now, at this remove, we can’t be sure if this version is as good, or worse, than that of the original, but we can tell you that if it’s not as good, it’s the next best thing. Plus, the original is long gone, so this is the best you’ll do anyway. Fives.

Worth the trouble?
