Pain Perdu Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1/2 loaf 8 oz bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch freshly ground nutmeg
  • 6 Tbs 3/4 stick unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup 66 g light brown sugar
  • 1-2 Tbs maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  • Butter an 8x8-inch baking pan.
  • Slice bread and layer in pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour over bread.
  • Cover dish and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • In a small saucepan, heat butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup until it starts to bubble.
  • Pour over eggs and bread. Sprinkle pecans on top.
  • Bake 40 to 50 minutes, or until browned and a bit bubbly in the center.
