Butter an 8x8-inch baking pan.
Slice bread and layer in pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour over bread.
Cover dish and refrigerate overnight.
Preheat oven to 350°F
In a small saucepan, heat butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup until it starts to bubble.
Pour over eggs and bread. Sprinkle pecans on top.
Bake 40 to 50 minutes, or until browned and a bit bubbly in the center.
