Minty Chocolate Wafers

Cool mint and crispy chocolate!

Another simple post, since we were gone for part of last week. But, just because the post is simple, it doesn’t mean that the recipe isn’t delicious. After all, these Minty Chocolate Wafers are thin and crispy, like the national brand of chocolate wafers that are oh, so expensive, but with an added blast of mint flavor. And, to top it off, these are super simple to make. What could be better?

Rosemary and Pine Nut Ice Cream

Cool and tasty!

Sometimes we think that the various “gourmet” ice cream shops make odd-sounding flavors just to intrigue people. You know the kind: Chili Lime Sorbet, Bubble Gum, Carrot Mango Sorbet, Hibiscus Beet, etc. They may sound interesting, but do they taste good? We happen to like to stick to the standards: Triple Chocolate, Vanilla, Chocolate Macadamia Nut Crunch. The ice creams that sound and taste like ice cream. But, then, we ran across the recipe for Rosemary’s Baby in The Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream Book, by Jake Godby, Sean Vahey, and Paolo Lucchesi, and it stood out as one of those flavors that we’d actually try.

Strawberry Balsamic Ice Cream

Cool. Creamy.

The fourth of July is closing in on us here in the US, so we thought we’d get out a quick post for nearly everyone’s favorite Fourth of July treat: ice cream. Now, we’ve posted ice cream several times before, but never strawberry. And, we’re not talking about that stuff with the fake strawberry flavor you get in a store. We’re talking real strawberry ice cream. With real strawberries.

Crêpe Cake

Easy as pancakes!

We love making desserts like this crêpe cake. Why? First, they’re nothing more than a combination of a couple of things that we’ve already made and know are really good. Second, they’re easy to write up. And, in this case, they’re pretty easy to put together, too. That’s three for three, which here in Scratchin’ Land is about as good as it gets.

Peppermint Stick Ice Cream

Cool, creamy, yummy.

With the holidays approaching, we thought that we’d give you a little head start on one of our favorite Christmas treats: Peppermint Stick Ice Cream. There’s just something nice and refreshing about the clean mint flavor and those crunchy bits of candy canes embedded in the cool, creamy, frozen custard that says winter. Now, sad to say, we have no recipe for peppermint stick ice cream, but do you think that’ll stop us?

Ad Hoc Brownies

Mmm. Chocolate!

Yes, we did have a post awhile back on brownies, using our standard recipe, so why another recipe?

Well, we’ve wanted to try this particular recipe for over a year, and, for one reason or another, we didn’t get to it. Until today. (We actually made them yesterday, but who’s keeping track?) This particular recipe comes from Thomas Keller’s book, Ad Hoc at Home, which is full of great recipes based on dishes that he serves at his restaurant Ad Hoc in California. What’s not to like?

Pastry Doughs

With just a few recipes, you can make almost any dessert!

We just got back from a vacation, so posts for the next couple of days might be a little light on content. Don’t worry; we’ll be right back in the swing of things soon.

Right before we left on vacation, we noticed that we’d posted on every important pastry dough. Knowing these doughs is the key to making desserts (and savory dishes, too), since they form the foundation of almost anything with a crust, and, once you have a set of great crust recipes in hand, the dessert world is yours.
