More Onions, Hmm

weekly CSA produce share
Shishito peppers are one of the nicest tasting peppers around — not spicy — just great flavor.

Here’s one of the downsides to belonging to a CSA: you don’t get to pick and choose what you’ll get. Case in point: onions. We’ve gotten them pretty much every week for a while now, meaning that we have a counter full of onions. Yes, we do try to trade sometimes, but sometimes that’s not easy. So, we end up with an excess of some produce. We don’t mind too much, because we’ve learned that’s the nature of farming. Sometimes a particular crop does very well, so we get a bunch. And sometimes a crop fails and we get nothing. It’s all part of having your produce come directly from the farmer; we just happen to be fortunate, that, since our farmer grows so many crops, we still get a nice variety.

This week, we picked up:

  • Shishito peppers (1 basket) — our favorite peppers
  • Roasted green peppers (1 bag) — traded for more shishito peppers
  • Red onions (4)
  • Eggplant (1)
  • Summer squash (3)
  • Tomatoes (1 basket)
  • Red potatoes (2)
  • Verdolagas (1 bunch)
