Spring is on the Way

weekly CSA produce share
Carrots are a sign of the coming spring, but, of course, we’re still getting lots of greens.

We can see that spring is on the way with the arrival of the first carrots. Right now, they’re baby carrots — true baby carrots, not those trimmed and peeled things they sell in the store as baby carrots — but, hopefully, soon they’ll be full-sized carrots. As usual, we left the carrot tops for the chickens. That’s one green we just can’t figure out a good way to use. The items we picked up are:

  • Navel oranges (3)
  • Baby purple-top turnips (1 bunch)
  • Baby carrots (1 bunch)
  • Sweet potatoes (3)
  • Salad mix (1 bag)
  • Tender greens (1 bunch) — these are a mild, heirloom variety of mustard greens
  • Daikon radishes (1 bunch) — these are a beautiful purple color
  • Quelites, aka amaranth greens (1 bunch)
