We think these may the first cucumbers of the season, but, of course, those are Armenian cucumbers, which are not cucumbers at all. They’re melons that taste like cucumbers. Every time we pick up some of these at the CSA, we remember a small boy who was going through the line helping his parent select their produce. When he chose an Armenian cucumber, he noticed that it seemed a bit limp, and stated, “I’ll name mine Floppy.” A perfect sentiment.
So, this week we picked up:
- Indigo Rose Tomatoes (1 basket)
- Armenian cucumbers (2 — both floppy)
- Trucker’s Delight corn (2 ears)
- Okra (1 basket)
- Mixed peppers (1 bag), traded for another basket of okra
- Summer squash (4)
- Melon (1)
- Shallots (1 bag)
The shallots look somewhat like I’itoi onions, so we plan to plant a few bulbs to see if they grow.
