The Greens are Still Coming!

weekly CSA produce share
You don’t see it in this photo, but we also picked up a nice tomato plant, too. We’ll be planting it and hoping the javelina don’t get to it.

We’d thought that we were getting close to the end of the greens season, but this week it came back with a vengeance. Not that we’re complaining, mind you; we love our greens!

This week, our share included:

  • Navel oranges (3)
  • Romaine lettuce (1 head)
  • Red leaf lettuce (1 head)
  • Rainbow chard (1 bunch)
  • Red Russian kale (1 bunch)
  • I’itoi onions (1 bunch)
  • Tomato plant (1)
  • Collard greens (1 bunch)

We’ve already eaten the collard greens as Slow-Cooked Greens for part of a Mardi Gras dinner, along with Beans and Rice, of course. The rest? We’ll update next week.

Update March 12. The romaine lettuce went into several Caesar salads — probably our favorite salad. The red leaf lettuce went into simple salads with vinaigrette dressing. Navel oranges, well we ate those at lunches. We tried something new with the kale — Kale Slaw — which we published. Our tomato plant is still holding on — yay! And, we sautéed the chard along with some I’itoi onions and mushrooms for an easy lunch.
